Seven years before the second coming of Christ, there will arise a man who will strive to rule the entire world. Like his predecessors, Alexander the Great, Napoleon and Hitler, this man will also fail. Let's face it, it's just too big of a job! Anybody nuts enough to want to rule the entire world would have to have an ego the size of Niagara Falls and anyone who dared to try would find out he's biting off more than he can chew.
Still, he will try. He will use modern technology, of course and every means at his disposal. He will try to control every person on the planet and, eventually, demand that we all worship him. That means he's going to be doing a lot of peacocking and performing of miracles to demonstrate his power.
Daniel describes him in Daniel 8:23 as "a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences". He says in verse 24, "And his power shall be mighty, ... and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people."
For a while, it will look like he's winning. But we know that he'll just be filling his cup of iniquity.
Daniel 8:25 says, "And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; (Jesus) but he shall be broken without hand."
