Where do doubts come from?
I think we can all agree that doubts come from the enemy of our soul, Satan. Don't they?
The problem is, he disguises his doubts with our THOUGHTS. He gets into our head through our thoughts and pretends that the doubt is one of our own thoughts.
Get it?
When we have a problem, our first instinct is to figure it out. We don't need God for this one. This is an easy, one plus one problem that can be figured out with common sense. So, we try to figure it out. We gather the information, compare notes, add, multiply and come up with the answer. But, then, oops, something just didn't quite fit. So, we refigure, add the estimables, divide by the probablies and come up with another solution.
Still, not quite right.
It may be at that point that we call out to God for an answer. However, in the back of our mind, we're still trying to figure things out so that our mind will be satisfied. It needs to make sense to our mind. And our mind can be very demanding. But, God has warned us about our carnal mind.
Romans 8
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
Our mind is the enemy of God because that's the door where Satan can get in with his secret poison. Those doubts that we suffer are NOT our own thoughts. Those are straight out of the pit of hell with an insidious wisdom that will trap us in a sort of spiritual DEATH.
So, we have to snap out of that.
As soon as a doubt comes in, it must be attacked! We must be vigilant. We must be militant. The devil isn't playing games, so we shouldn't take it lightly when he starts throwing doubt over the situation and bringing in his big guns. He may start off "innocently" or mildly at first, but it's what happens when we start to listen to him and agree with him that really hurts.
Don't give him an inch or he will take a mile. Don't give him your ear or you'll give him a foothold.
The spiritual battles are getting tougher and we need to toughen ourselves up. Put on the whole armour of God and stand against the wiles of the enemy.
When we have a problem, taking it to the Lord first will show God that we trust Him above all others. Even small problems. He wants to help. And, a small problem can become a big one if passed along to the carnal mind to try to sort out. Often our carnal mind, without the Lord, is a disaster. In fact, we can even get to the point where we drive ourselves to the brink of insanity trying to figure out problems that only God has the answer for.
For a believer, problems are usually spiritual and should be dealt with on a spiritual level. Even financial problems or business problems must be dealt with differently than non-believers' problems, so that God will get the glory and we will get the lesson and grow in faith.
It takes slowing down our thoughts. In fact, to shut them off would help. It takes praising God and bringing down God's Spirit. Then, it takes casting our cares on Him, asking for His solution and resting in His omnipotence. The answer may take time coming, but when it does, it will be the perfect solution to the problem and the only solution that will fit!
Lose your doubts and fears. Quiet your spirit and listen. It gets easier with practise. But, don't worry, you'll probably have lots of practise if you need it because there are more problems on the way! That's one thing believers can count on. And we can count on Jesus to solve them, too.
